Blessing of the Animals at Historic St. Lukes Church
The feast of St. Francis was celebrated as families brought their pets to the church, and the vicar of St. Luke's bestowed a blessing upon them. Children's book author Mary Batten of Smithfield signed her books including her newest book, Please Don't Wake the Animals, while complimentary dog treats were served.
Mary Batten, left, award-winning children's book author and Cami Brooks, Assistant Director at Historic St. Luke's Church, greeted people at the book signing prior to The Blessing of the Animals.
Sheila Schaff of Rescue Virginia and her dog, Snickers, took a moment to enjoy the scenery outside of Historic St. Luke's Church, before attending the Blessing of the Animals.
